I have not seen them at UK fairgrounds for quite a few years.
In the early 70's they used to have a nice dunking attraction at the fairground at Margate in Kent. This was a variation on the dunk tank them...called "tip the lady out of bed" attraction...where they had a girl in a bed and if you hit the target, it would tip the lady out of bed and into a pool of water. I have rarely seen that kind of dunk tank in recent years. It was featured in the 1957 Kim Novak movie "Jeanne Eagels" where Kim gets dunked...and also shown in the UK world war 2 comedy series "Allo Allo" (Britains kinda sorta version of "Hogans Heroes")....
...and the last time I saw one of those bed dunking events at a fairground was when I visited the Tivoli Gardens amusement park in Copenhagen, Denmark in 1988....but I don't think they have that attraction today.

By Justin - Fri 28/01/05 11:32:56 GMT Hi
Does anyone know of anywhere in Great Britain where you can go to either see or take part in dunk-tanking?
There used to be one at Blackpool Pleasure Beach but I think it's away now.
Thanks,
J.
