I believe women are wired very differently, and I believe recent research bears out that women's brains are much better developed for communications, and being in touch with emotions, hers and others.  I hear there are far more connections from the left to the right side of the brain.  I don't mean this as an insult to anyone, but I'm dying to know if being gay or transgender has to do with being born with the body of one sex, but the wiring of the other.  If the stereotype of the gay male decorator, hair dresser or fashion designer (careers that require emotional sensitivity) has merit, this might explain that.

My opinion, it all started when we were primates.  Our early brain was much simpler.  Men were bigger and more aggressive, the testosterone.  We were optimized to rapidly assess whether an approaching person was friend, enemy, possibly a mate, or maybe even dinner.  That assessment was visual, unless we were tracking an enemy or a mate, or scouting territory, then we were sniffing footprints (the origin of the foot fetish?).  The faster a guy passed judgement and acted on visuals without letting emotion get in the way, the more successful he (and his offspring) were likely to be.  We hunted food, defended the family, and probably fertilized as many females as possible in order to propagate the species.  Not a whole lot of need for emotion or communication.

Women, on the other hand, needed to know and cater to the needs of their children, the estrogen influence.  In order to successfully propagate the species, she needed to attract a mate, and keep him around for a while for protection.

We still have the "reptilian brain" sitting on top of the brain stem making the first instinctive reactions, not always appropriate for modern life.  We developed a larger, more sophisticated brain around it, but it's still there.  Among more civilized people, we take pride in keeping the first instinctive judgement call in check until we further evaluate, hopefully before we engage the mouth or fists.  In street gangs and some societies, there seems to be pride in just acting on the impulse.  The friend or foe instinctive reaction seems to have a lot to do with bigotry, prejudice, and cultural and religious separatism.

Any surprise men tend to make a judgement call and act based on visuals?  Any surprise that womens fantasies seem to be about an aggressive male finding them irresistible, having their way with them, and then not going out for a beer with their buddies afterwords?  That is how the species survived.  When I go to the zoo and watch the gorillas, it's amazing how much of myself I see.

I'm not saying no women are visual, find me a girl that watches football, and I suspect you've found a girl who's looking at big shoulders and tight pants.  Visuals might play a part in selecting a mate that looks like they could provide (money) and/or protect (muscles), but the likelihood of hanging around and being supportive is probably better indicated by buying flowers and noticing her new hairdo.
