Not the point of this thread, not something that could be reasonably inferred from anything that was said, and I don't believe it's true anyway. The point was about harassment of women, which seems rather acute on-line, seems to correlate with poorly socialized men (for whatever reason), but occurs everywhere. The only other point was that the poorly-socialized seem over-represented in on-line communities, no matter the topic of interest. |

By AnthonyX - anthonyx@jowc.net Sun 06/10/24 16:57:22 GMT This is not a new phenomenon by any means. I first discovered on-line references to wet-and-messy about 30 years ago in newsgroups, of all places... back when "high-speed" was a 56k modem on your phone line and downloading a single decent image could take several minutes. It has always been rare for women to participate on-line. Perhaps because it's such a rare thing, they would get swarmed by out-of-control men and boys, stalked, or accused of being a male masquerading as a women (which has always been "a thing"). One might speculate as to the cause of all this. Perhaps people who come on line have issues socializing in the real world, or lack the opportunity for real-world interaction and fail to develop appropriate social skills. Not everyone is like that, but all it takes is a few bad apples to spoil the batch. I'd like to think women are welcome in these on-line forums, but I can only speak for myself. |

By Anonymous - Sun 06/10/24 13:07:32 GMT Just to make it clear, I'm a woman. I apologize for my slightly edgy tone here, but I just feel that this needs to be said...
This has happened to me before, but I've seen it happen to other women too many times. It usually goes like this:
A woman introduces herself in a wetlook-related social media group, then deletes her post within an hour, and her entire profile goes private. I'm not talking about those fake profiles made by guys, where you have some made-up woman's name, and pictures stolen from wetlook websites. I'm talking about actual, genuine women who enter these groups and then get harassed into oblivion, to the point they need to make their profiles private.
Control yourselves. That is a person on the other side. If she does not respond, she is not interested. It's not a cue to send her friend requests, not a cue to repeatedly send her messages until she responds, and definitely not a cue to seek her out on OTHER social media like LinkedIn.
I get it, wetlook is a rare fetish. But get a fucking grip.
