Rather than looking to producers to offer some sort of download replacement plan, I think you would be better off to back up your downloads. For one thing, vendors may disappear from the net after a while - and "a few years" can be a long time in the world of WAM producers; if you find yourself wanting to replace a download after a producer has closed up shop, you're out of luck. For software, replacement is often a matter of re-downloading (which is unlimited) and re-entering a license key (for which the onus is on you to not lose). Content downloads typically don't work that way, making a replacement scheme difficult for the provider to support and enforce.

Even if a replacement scheme was on offer, I would not rely on it, so would never pay for it. I would just get myself an extra drive and keep my stuff backed up.

Something else to consider: There are NAS drives which can be RAIDed into fail-safe configurations - as long as you have two or more physical drives, your content can be automatically mirrored so if a drive fails, you don't lose anything.

And then there is cloud storage. You could subscribe to a cloud based backup service to keep your data safe... likely no more expensive than a producer-offered replacement plan, and far easier to recover files from a cloud backup service than a producer who has gone out of business.

I've got a question to producers regarding download stores prompted by my recent failure of my NAS drive.

I had many clips bought from many producers like Eurowam, Soakingwet.co.uk, xxsmiley, etc, about 300-400 Gigabytes, but it seems, that I lost them with my NAS failure.

This brings me to my question - most of these sites with download stores (not membership sites) have download carts that are valid for only a short time after a purchase, mostly for a week. Would it be possible for producers to provide an optional download protection, like software vendors have, for purchases, so I could re-download the content I bought even several years after the purchase?

I would be happy if an option like this would be available and I would be happy to pay a small surcharge for this service.

I eagerly await your response.
