It is true that very many people don't notice, and I have found that most of those members of the public who comment are positive. I have been asked if I have lost a child a few times, whereas it was really women in wet clothes I was looking for!
A couple of times I have been told by lifeguards that, like Soak_ed, I was getting people worried because they thought I might be suicidal, and been asked to come out of the sea. I once overheard a radio call from another lifeguard station to the one I was standing next to, describing me, and saying that I had come in their direction and to keep an eye on me (the message didn't say why). And at Weymouth during the yachting events at the Olympics, when the place was crawling with police, somebody reported me as a suspected terrorist because i was wearing jeans in the sea lol.
But that is not much, really, from over thirty years of going to busy beaches 20 - 30 times each year. It tends to depend on how you behave - splashing along looking happy gets positive reactions; standing staring about morosely gets negative ones. |

By Soak_ed - soak_ed@hotmail.com Thu 21/04/16 00:19:28 GMT I suppose that all depends on where you live. A few years ago I ws in California, near San Fransisco and I was wading in the very cold Pacific ocean in jeans and a tee shirt. After some time, a Police vehicle drove along the beach, slowed down and the officer asked if I was ok. I said I was indeed. She responded that they had gotten a call that someone was in the water fully clothed and maybe I was suicidal! I assured her I was not and she drove away. |

By TredWet - Thu 21/04/16 00:09:54 GMT I don't think many people notice or care. My wife and I have spent days on the beach, swimming in jeans and t-shirts, and never feel we are regarded as odd. These days, anything goes at the beach. |

By Anonymous - Wed 20/04/16 18:23:56 GMT Thank you for the update! I noticed that there are producers who do similar shots as well, and I was curious, how does the public react when they see a woman go into water fully clothed? Do they see that it is a photoshoot? |
