IMHO....not really.
Most of what you see in the film can be found in the trailer. The actual film offers little more than underwater scenes (many of which a faked by CGI and not real water). The only topside wetlook scene the girl is completey naked, so no wetlook there.
Here is part of an email where I was discussing this movie with a friend last month...
"Driector Del Toro is not skilled at diving, and he was probably not willing to cede control over his film to a 2nd unit underwater director...and so he preferred to keep his feet on dry land and to use cgi fakery instead.....but this had nothing to do with his buidget and Del Toro's excuse that he did not have the budget to shoot in a real water tank, so he peferred to his CGI fakery instead. Del Toro is an A list director and he can easily get the budget to do such scenes....so this is just a load of bunk story del Toro puts out for the media.....when the more likely reason is that del Toro can’t swim or maybe his leading actress was not able to do real underwater work....so it was easier to fake it instead.
If you have not seen the film, I will not spoil it.....except to say that this was hardly an original idea for a movie...cos it copied elements of Creature from the Black Lagoon, She Creature and Splash. The movie trailer is really misleading....because what you see in the movie trailer with the girl in the red dress in the fake underwater scene.....that is basically the last 30 seconds of the movie. Why would you place your finale of a film in the movie trailer....because after you see the trailer then there is nothing else worth seeing that was not already in the trailer. There are ZERO wetlook scenes in this film and the only time the girl is in real water...she is naked....so it is a dud from a wetlook perspective."
