First of all Im jealous, man I miss oz!
Ok a secluded beach safe from sharks.... To be honest in the area you are looking at it can be a bit dodgy...
Firstly in northern Queensland sharks wont be your problem as such but Saltwater crocs will so be careful, dont go too far north. Secondly the only 100% safe from shark areas are ones that have like security nets to keep them out, unfortunately these tend to be in public areas. The secluded areas tend to be completely at your own risk. Another thing to look out for is Jellyfish seasons but im pretty certain that you will miss that.
To be honest I saw quite a lot of people walk or swim in the sea in jeans and fully clothed, it doesnt really stand out as such, or at least noone took much notice
The main places in Queensland on the coast are Cairns and Townsville. Last time I went to Cairns they were in the process of creating an artificial beach but that area tends to be quite public, Id suggest maybe staying at a small town and asking local people about how safe their coast is for sharks, If you see lots and lots of fish swimming Id suggest staying clear as these are what the sharks head for.
So Basically... there are lots of secluded beaches but in terms of safety, luck on the draw really ! |
In reply to Message (18746) Getting Wet in OZ
By Showerluvva - Fri 14/10/05 10:34:54 GMT I'm taking my wife to OZ this February and would love to find a secluded beath where she will feel that its private enought to swim in her jeans and tee shirt. Can anyone suggest any suitable beaches (safe from sharks too)? I thinking of Queensland/Great Barrier Reef. |
