1. Rapidshare allow to store in its computers any type of files. JPEG, RAR, AVI, any...
2. RAR is one of common file types. It has no reference to Rapidshare. The "RAR" name stands for "Roshal ARchivator". It's an "archve", a container. People often put several other files into one such archive file, in order to save space and dowloading speed. It can be opened by WinRAR program or by free unrar program.
3. AVI and FLV are video files. They can be opened and played by any recent video player, such as VLC or MPC.
4. Some people for some reasons rename the files they stores on Rapidshare, so a file seems like it has the other file type. For example, a file which has AVI type (video) renamed to RAR type: "somefile.avi" to "somefile.rar". It still be a video file, of course :) In order to become visible to the player again it's must be renamed back to "somefile.avi".

In reply to Message (38967) Rapidshare
By soggybottom - Fri 06/02/09 21:19:28 GMT A lot of the videos are in Rapidshare. I have repeatedly tried to open these files. I wait the 38 seconds and get an "error" message and no video. I tried looking Rapidshare up to see if I could download any software. No luck. They say that it was originally a German site for uploading large files. What are other people finding out about this format? |
