OK...I guess I should tell you a little secret. All the professional producers pay 10% of their incomes each week into "The Youtube camera persons Scholarship Fund"...which gives budding camera people cash incentives and rewards them for  pointing the camera sideways, shooting into the sun, and avoiding staying focused on the girl, and above all, when holding the camera....always get drunk first and then act like you are having a seizure or make it appear like you are standing on the deck of the Starship Enterprise in the middle of a photon blast attack. This is all part of our master-plan to thwart the advent of free videos on Youtube that are putting us out of business.

Yes....we do give very detailed tips and lessons on how to hold a camera steady and how to get good shots, but only to our camera assistants and partners and those who share their media with us.

But seriously, you can't generally use a tripod when you are at a spontaneous event, but there are ways to keep things steady without the use of a tripod, and all the folks I buy cameras for get lots of tips and lessons on how to shoot well....e.g. anybody who sees my Russian fountains girls series can see how well my assistants shoot at the Moscow fountains, and they all got training tips on how to hold the camera steady.

Regarding the sideways video problem and what Brad said....I will give you one nugget of info....

>What I am figuring is that in a year they'll make a program or app or something that auto-fixes the rotating camera thing

i.e....there already HAS been a free program that can do this for years.....and it is sitting on most people's pc's when they buy it...and few people seem to know this....i.e. the program is called Windows Movie Maker...which has the ability to flip any video that is sideways into the upright position.

But that is a very awkward abd clunky piece of software to use....and these days all the latest versions of most editing softwares can flip video from sideways to any position....i.e. Pinnacle, Adobe Premiere, Sony Vegas, Ulead, Avid and FInal Cut Pro can all flip video in any direction.

So...any college kid who has a cellphone...is smart enough to know where to find software that can flip video around.

The part that I don't get is that a lot of these people have to have filmed other stuff before and watched it. And they must have had the thought at some point as they craned their neck from side to side "Hey, it's a really dumb idea to keep rotating my hand 90 degrees while I film because it sucks having to keep twisting my head..."

Of course I say "They must..." but they obviously don't. What I am figuring is that in a year they'll make a program or app or something that auto-fixes the rotating camera thing. If they can make the camera identify and auto-focus on the faces instead of the background, they can make an app that knows where the ground is and keep that part on the bottom of the screen. It's all I can hope for, since dumb people will generally and sadly remain dumb.

Would it be possible for some of the professional camera operators we have on here to kind of give lessons via you tube etc on how to actually hold a camera when filming.

I know I do and probably a lot of you people out their in the wetlook world get annoyed when someone is filming what could be a very good clip and their suddenly decide to either start shaking the camera about (like you get on those fly on the wall documentaries where they are running) or film sideways thus making it very very difficult to see the clip that well.
