One day I will find somewhere where there is someone who doesn’t miss the point of everything I say or do, but it’s not here, and it’s not anywhere today, or tomorrow, or any point in the foreseeable future.

Yeah, judging by the low bypass turbofans it is a first gen jet liner, which was a wild west of plane design. It has a T-tail, which is notorious for decreasing elevator efficiency at high angles of attack, since it gets shielded by the wing. In real world, these problems were mitigated, but not eliminated, by increasing elevator area, however adding smaller horizontal surfaces to help with the issue isn't something that hasn't been attempted (though these designs haven't left wind tunnels, that's a different story). Also, if you look at the scene where she climbs out of the water (I watched it multiple times at slow speed because I'm...I was making sure I get it right) you see that the leading edge of the wing seems to not have any moving slats, which will go along with the idea of it being a first gen jet liner and it will further more increase the problem of elevator efficiency at higher angles of attack, which may happen during slow flight or during landing. Thus, a second set of horizontal control surfaces is added to make sure the plane doesn't run out of elevator when flaring during landing.

You mean, aside from having not one but *two* tailplanes?

It's just a movie, relax. I'm a sport pilot and I have a minor in aerospace engineering, and to me there is nothing terribly wrong with that plane (except winglets on the horizontal stabilizer, but hey, they look cool and maybe the laws of aerodynamics are slightly different in that universe). I also assume Boeing/Airbus/Bombardier/Insert your favorite plane maker here might have an issue if a 3D model was copied exactly. If you want more realistic looking planes, there is 1970 Airport.

Back To The Future is the best time travel movie.

I admit that I don’t have the interest in aviation that I did as a kid, but I’m not completely out of touch! Just because part of your story universe is fictional doesn’t mean that the parts that are real should not be as real as they can be. A nonsensical-looking plane just shouts out “this is all nonsense and we don’t even care”. Attention to detail matters!

What really broke Superman for me was time travel. I’m not against time travel in science fiction, but you have to use it with extreme care. Both the 1978 Superman film and Star Trek IV made the same mistake: once you’ve demonstrated that time travel is fairly easy and you can just roll back any mistake, why does time travel not become the de facto solution to every problem? Gorkon assassinated in Star Trek VI? No biggie, just whiz around the Klingon sun and prevent it.

I have no idea how classic Doctor Who dealt with this, but there was a “new Who” episode that demonstrated the danger of doubling back on your own timeline, in a completely bizarre and meaningless way. Apparently it makes flying gargoyles steal all the children from the playground or some shit.

The more you stray outside of the bounds of the plausible, the harder it seems to become to formulate a plausible set of universal laws that govern the world. One of the reasons for my great respect for Babylon 5 is how carefully it treated the subject, minimising the amount of loopholes and inconsistencies inherent in science fiction.

While a flying girl is so obviously plausible? Makes sense.

Not that it was made up, but that the design is so obviously fake.

Don’t get me started on fiction in general, let alone the Superman universe ;-)

This is a move about a girl who can fly and steer an airplane by grabbing it and your only complaint is that the model of the airplane was made up by the CG designer?

I realise, but it would be nice if looked more plausible ;-)
