It’s funny how your perspectives change over the years, but sometimes you can’t settle on a viewpoint.
For some time I had this particular distaste for dresses. I don’t know for sure why, but I think the restriction of some forms of dress on leg movement troubled me. Whether that was because it impedes you running from danger, or from running in fun, I can no longer say.
Long hair is the one that confuses me more. Society in general across the world broadly holds that if you are male you should have short hair (in in past decades, as an adult, flattened into a solid heap of grease) and if you are female, long hair.
However! If you want to be a professional woman, kiss goodbye to long hair!
Long hair is better for wetlook of course, but hair length puzzles me. Long hair is a nuisance and even a hazard. Think of how often people with long hair (male and female alike) are seen fighting its intrusion onto their face, such as in televised interviews.
I’m torn between the beauty of long hair and its complete impracticality. The idea that it’s unprofessional (albeit a growingly dated notion) adds to the confusion.
See, if I was not interested in wetlook, short hair on a woman would be the obvious choice, except for the fact that I have long hair myself (if only because I have no idea what else I am supposed to do with hair, as mine is ridiculously stubborn when short and I hate goop). Sadly my hair no longer has that “Pantene” look, as it inexorably greys and loses vitality.
Lots of women choose to keep their hair long, so clearly it’s not completely intolerable, and I’m more physically sensitive than most. I guess women have their own trade-offs, and for us, we want that long hair for its wet goodness!
Dresses I now do like, but sadly they are never as clingy as I wish they were :(
